Sunday was my last day in New York. My family and I spent it by visiting Ground Zero and shopping a little before we went to the airport.
Ground Zero, the site where the Twin Towers once stood, is a place I'm glad we visited. A quiet air of respect lies over the whole memorial. There are two pools where each tower stood with the names of the victims lining each one. The memorial is beautiful with trees and small stone benches scattered everywhere.
A new World Trade Center is under construction at the moment. We learned the bottom of the building is actually made of cement!
A 9/11 museum is currently being built and will open in the Spring of 2014. The outside of the building is made of glass and looks amazing. We were able to look inside and saw a giant piece of metal that was most likely from one of the buildings.
I didn't get any pictures but my family and I went shopping at Century 21. Then I dragged my parents to Brandy Melville which was insane! I didn't get anything because the line to the registers went all the way to the back of the store... I'd rather just shop online. Instead we went to Urban Outfitters and I got the book Dirty Spanish since I'm going to Ecuador next summer. By the time we left Urban Outfitters we had to get our bags from the hotel and go to the airport.
My family got to the airport FIVE HOURS EARLY. You could say we were prepared for our flight... To pass the time I watched YouTube videos, read my new book and went on twitter. We ate at Ruby Tuesday and then waited some more. A lot of time was spent doing absolutely nothing...
Luckily the flight was only 2 hours long. During the flight I watched a picture slideshow on my mom's laptop and slept a bit. We landed back in Ohare at 10:30, then drove home.
Going to New York was a great experience not only because it was fun, but because we toured the college I want to go to. It's such a great memory and on a sadder note, probably one of the last vacations with just my parents. To keep this from dragging on I'll end it here. Thanks for reading :)
